The oil coolers on all the boats I have owned always come after the main filter and before the impeller pump and all the sand and mud seem to build up in the holes over time.

Cleaning them is not that difficult but can be a bit tedious and can be a bit messy with oil and water leaking out when you remove it.

Very Blocked Tubes
Cleaned out tube holes with a length of 2mm steel wire in a drill
Broken end cap. I was amazed it never leaked
Main body needed to be repaired with plastic metal
Needed to drill and tap main body bolt hole as stripped thread
Finished Oil Cooler with new end caps and seals.
Still working fine 5 years on and over 2000 nautical miles.
